Volunteer Friendly 2015-2018
NACAS has been successful in achieving the coveted Volunteer Friendly Award, which is presented to organisations that recognise the importance of their volunteer workforce and support them throughout their volunteering journey.
We recognise that our volunteers are the lifeblood of our service and through the introduction of defined policies and procedures, such as the Beyond Excellence Recruitment model, support and supervision sessions and the appointment of a key member of staff in the role of Volunteer Support Officer, we have achieved this accolade.
There are five strands to Volunteer Friendly:
Commitment to Involving Volunteers
Making Volunteering Happen
Fair and Equal Volunteering
Volunteering Tasks and Getting Them Done
Celebrating Volunteers’ Contributions
For each strand, we have demonstrated best practice and provided evidence of how we work with volunteers to the awarding body showing that our practices are of the highest standard.
There remains a great deal of competition between Third Sector organisations and private companies, all of whom are bidding for funding in the areas which we operate. Having an estimable track record however, is insufficient to ensure continuation which is why we have invested resources in our volunteers and staff through awards, achievements and accreditation to recognised bodies.
We will continue to strive for excellence by applying for the ‘Investors in Volunteers’ (IiV) accreditation. This is a hugely important UK quality standard which once achieved will enable us to publicly demonstrate our commitment to our volunteers and effective volunteer management. It will enhance the volunteer experience within our organisation and encourage uptake in volunteering with us. It will also enhance our reputation within the local community thereby serving to secure our position within North Ayrshire and our ability to continue operation.
