About Us

North Ayrshire Citizens Advice Service (NACAS) is a member of Citizens Advice Scotland (the national umbrella body for Citizens Advice Bureaux), providing advice services to our clients through a network of bureaux in Arran, Irvine, Kilbirnie, Largs and Saltcoats as well as our Outreach Services in Kilwinning and Beith.

We provide free, independent, confidential, and impartial advice on a range of issues including debt and consumer issues, benefits, housing, legal matters, employment and discrimination.

The service is completely free and confidential. We don’t judge or take sides, and our advice is unaffected by any consideration other than the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

History

NACAS was formed in July 1998 from the amalgamation of Cunninghame Citizens Advice, the Unemployed Workers Centre and Arran Information and Advice and was incorporated into the Citizens Advice Service in August 1998.

Last year we dealt with 13,971 enquiries, providing advice and support through our bureaux, by telephone, email and by letter and helped our clients to a total financial gain of £2.18 million pounds.

What we do

Unemployment, debt and home repossession are just some of the problems faced by millions of people every day. NACAS helps people to tackle their problems head on with advice, information and practical support. As well as working with clients to solve individual problems, NACAS works to change services and policies which are failing.

Our Vision

A fairer North Ayrshire where people as citizens and consumers are empowered and their rights respected.

Our Mission

  • To ensure that individuals do not suffer through the lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively.
  • To exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both locally and nationally.

Our Values

In carrying out their roles NACAS staff will ensure that they build into all their work and future plans a set of core values. These values are:

Accessibility

NACAS will provide free access to information and advice for the people of North Ayrshire. We will constantly evolve to meet the needs of our stakeholders.

Governance

NACAS is a forward thinking organisation adding value to North Ayrshire. We ensure value for public money and have robust lines of accountability to the Board of Directors and the key stakeholders we work with.

 Independence

NACAS is a self-governed organisation with services that are not influenced by external agencies. We are open and community accountable abiding by our 12 operating principles.

Quality

NACAS will invest in quality by ensuring that we are effective by continuously monitoring, reviewing, and improving our governance, management, service delivery, processes and practices. We help people develop and perform as highly as possible.

Service

NACAS is a client focused voluntary service. Remembering this will ensure that our decision making, deployment of resources, our communication, and service delivery are all focussed on achieving the best outcomes for the clients of NACAS.

Trust & Transparency

NACAS works hard to earn the trust of the clients by adhering to the principles of Confidentiality, Impartiality, and Allowing the Client the Right to Decide. NACAS is trusted by all stakeholders for bringing integrity to everything we do.
